Visions of Flying Machines
An evening of works that explore humanity’s enduring fascination with the sky above and the sea below
From the depths of the sea to the limitless skies, Visions of Flying Machines explores humanity’s fascination with flight, water, and the mysteries between them - from the haunting darkness of Judith Bingham's The drowned lovers to the transcendent genius of Leonardo da Vinci as portrayed in Eric Whitacre's seminal Leonardo dreams of his flying machine. The programme concludes with Tarik O’Regan's epic The Ecstasies above - in which the choir, divided into three distinct forces, sings of the angel Israfel in what the composer describes as, "an homage of ecumenicity to an all-encompassing angel of music".
Programme to include:
Judith Bingham - The drowned lovers
Charles V Stanford - The Bluebird
Ralph Vaughan Williams - A vision of aeroplanes
Cecilia McDowall - Night Flight
Eric Whitacre - Leonardo dreams of his flying machine

Medici Choir presents
Medici Choir Summer Opera Gala
From Purcell to Puccini via Verdi and Wagner, a selection of opera choruses will be sung by the Medici Choir with soprano and baritone soloists.
This well-known London choir's Summer Opera Gala will include the Chorus of The Hebrew Slaves (Va Pensiero) from Verdi’s opera Nabucco, arguably the most famous of all opera choruses, as well arias, ensembles and choruses from Bizet’s Carmen, Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, and the exciting Polovtsian Dances from Borodin’s Prince Igor, among many more.
For all lovers of opera and choral music, this is a concert not to be missed. Accompanied by Benedict Lewis-Smith, and directed by David Gostick.
Come and join us for an evening of romantic classics.
The concert starts with Weber’s Oberon Overture which takes us to a realm of knights and forest spirits from the very first notes played by the solo horn – the magical instrument of the Elf King. Katya Grabova then joins the orchestra for one of the most loved works in the repertoire: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, famed for its soaring melodies, intense passion, and lush orchestration. The evening concludes with Dvorak’s Symphony No. 5. Often called his "Pastoral" symphony, it is one of his sunniest pieces, capturing the rustic charm and folk-inspired rhythms of the Bohemian countryside and filled with glorious melodies.
Our soloist: Katya Grabova
Currently studying for a masters at the Royal Academy of Music, Katya is establishing herself as one of the most compelling young pianists of her generation. She has performed at major music festivals including Rheingau Musik Festival and Leeds International Concert Season. She made her solo recital debut at Wigmore Hall last November, supported by Royal Academy of Music. https://www.katyagrabova.com/
